Vert Ltd

Vert Ltd (‘Vert’) is a private company established in the year 2000 with a focus on the production, processing, grading, packing and exporting of fresh fruits and vegetables for the European market.

The project

Through this project, Vert aims to venture into mango drying, a new business line, that is complementary to its existing mango pulping activities. When mango drying is established, Vert will be able to purchase all of the farmers’ mango output throughout the growing season (i.e. grade 1 for drying and grade 2 for pulping) offering a premium price for the best quality mangos.

With support from AgriFI, VERT Ltd (RVP) aims to:

  • Establish a contract farming scheme for sourcing all qualities of mangos from 3,000 smallholders in multiple counties who will all be trained in good agricultural practices.
  • Set up an automated outgrower management system (AOMS), through which the outgrower scheme can be managed in an automated way by using reliable management information.
  • Train 3,000 mango farmers in conforming to Global GAP and organic certification requirements and facilitate the respective audits.
  • Create awareness among women and youth about active participation in the value chain by demonstrating the profitability of mango farming, encouraging youth to act as service providers in their respective farmer group and encouraging women to take leading positions in farmer groups.
  • Establish a total of 36 collection centres, equipped with packing equipment and post-harvest handling bins at farmer association locations where the mangoes will be aggregated.
  • Purchase, install and certify four drying units with a total capacity of 1,520 kg of dried mango per drying shift.
