Phyma Fresh Produce Ltd. deals in production, grading, packing and export of fresh fruits and vegetables to the European market.
The project
The goal of the proposed project is to establish an out grower-based supply chain for chilli and Asian vegetables for export. Phyma Fresh is recapturing the lucrative European market for chilli that was disrupted in 2018 by EU regulations.
Project activities
- Establishing a contract farming scheme for sourcing high quality chilli from smallholders who are being trained in good agricultural practices.
- Setting up an automated out-grower management system (AOMS), through which the out-grower scheme can be managed in an automated manner by using reliable management information.
- Training 1500 chilli small-holder farmers in conforming to the Global GAP certification requirements and facilitate the respective audits.
- Creating awareness among women and youth about active participation in the value chain by demonstrating the profitability of chilli farming, encouraging youth to act as service providers in their respective farmer groups and encouraging women to take leading positions in farmer groups.
- Establishing an outpost pack-house in Tana River, equipping it to process/package chilli from this region into finished products thus cutting down the cost of logistics.
- Providing 1500 chilli farmers with Shade nets to protect chili fields from infestation of False coding moths and facilitate their permits for export from KEPHIS.
- Providing farmers with environmentally friendly pest management inputs/supplies (vermond traps)
- Establishing 15 aggregation centres in the three growing regions.
