Paem Company Limited (PCL) is an innovative macadamia nuts and oil processing company, established in 2012 to supply high quality nutritious nuts processed, packaged and distributed in a hygienic environment while ensuring sustainable supply from farmers. Since then, Paem Company Limited has been offering a sustainable market to thousands of small holder farmers growing macadamia while at the same time ensuring that the end consumer enjoys a healthy nuts snack.

The project

• Integrate 10000 macadamia farmers into PCL’s farmer development scheme, involving guaranteed market access, access to extension support and high-quality seedlings.
• Train 10000 smallholder macadamia farmers in good agricultural & climate smart practices, leading to higher quality nuts, higher productivity and increased sustainability.
• Digitize the procurement process and farmer database collect data and present dashboards to different users for strategic decision making especially in field extension service.
• Guarantee farmers price premiums through sustainability certifications (organic & fair-trade) and market access
• Integrate solar energy in the new facility as a climate smart practice in the company and a measure to ensure project continuity through cost saving beyond the project.
• Create job opportunities for women and youth in both the field extension and post-harvest section.
• Distribute 10000 seedlings to smallholder farmers.
• Implement traceability software for integrated in the website design for customers both local and international to get information about the product including source, date of harvest, crop protection history among others.
• Revive the input store, nursery and a demo plot within the packhouse site.
