This case study provides an overview of the journey that AgriFI Kenya Challenge Fund grantee Vert Limited has been on as it seeks to develop a financially viable inclusive sourcing model which ensures sustainability of supply whilst offering profitable supply opportunities for smallholder farmers. Acknowledging the existence of good employment opportunities for women in the horticulture value chain, the case study emphasises the importance of backing these up with opportunities for training, promotion, and economic upgrading so that women are not confined to roles such as grading that are often labelled ‘women’s work’.
